Coogee Chaplain

Greetings! Let me firstly wish all new and returning members a warm welcome to Season 2023/2024 at Coogee SLSC.

I wanted to take this opportunity to say hello and introduce myself as the Coogee SLC Chaplain. It’s an honour to serve our Club as its Chaplain, this being the 3rd season since its inception at the Club.  Coogee SLSC joins over sixty Surf Lifesaving clubs around Australia with a Chaplain, including Manly, Freshwater, Maroubra and Bondi to name a few.
The Chaplains role is to be a visible and available ear to anyone in the Club who needs it, extending the club's duty of care to members and families. Sometimes in times of loss or grief, sometimes it is needed in less pressing but nonetheless challenging situations. Hopefully, all of us are available to our patrols and Competition teams when they need someone to listen amidst life’s challenges, stresses, and pressures, but I’m here as a second layer; a confidential person to talk with for whoever is looking for that. Someone who you know will offer care and support.

I've been an active patrol member of Coogee SLSC since 2017, as well as still volunteering in the Junior club as an Age Manager, having joined Minnows the same year via Mum and Dad's Army. In my professional life I work in IT Support, and have three children in the club - Patrol and Minnows

My Chaplaincy training was undertaken through Sport Chaplaincy Australia in 2021, including Incident Management Training to provide support to the club for critical occasions that could occur.  I have also undertaken the club sponsored Mental Health Workplace accreditation.

SLSC Chaplains are here to build people, remain authentic and trustworthy, serve without discrimination, and to keep it pure - having no agendas.

I look forward to meeting many more of you in the future, and I'd like to extend an invitation to call or email me whenever you feel like a chat or have any questions about the role.

All the best for the season

Alex Peshevski
