Coogee SLSC has a major focus on ensuring as many people from around Sydney and NSW have an opportunity to learn Water Safety knowledge, and develop an understanding of being safe at the beach and around waterways
Our Volunteer Community Eduction team run sessions throughout the summer season and other months during the year for many members of the wider community.
In Season 2018-2019 Coogee SLSC team worked with over 350 people in our Community Education and Water Safety Sessions, and this was supported by a committed group of engaged Lifesavers.
These Community and Educational Groups included the following:
Japanese Students via Rugby NSW.
Primary school kids from Liverpool West who were mostly refugees students from Iraq, Year 9 & 10 students from Regional NSW High schools via the ASPIRE Program and UNSW (our fifth season with them)
Two groups of International Uni students via UNSW Student Health Program - these students had completed their pool swim sessions ( 2nd season with this group).
Home school groups from Vaucluse.
Teenagers and Parents from the Horn of Africa via Kids Giving Back (Third season).
Red Cross Young Parents Program (3rd season).
We also had the pleasure of working with SLSA and our National Sponsor DHL, for a great Water Safety and team building session with over 100 DHL Snr Mgt involved - a great day for SLS.
All of these sessions covered based water safety information and rip awareness, and supported by some basic CPR. Seeing the smiles on many faces when we got in the water is always encouraging.
The Coogee team received some wonderful feedback from all of these Programs, from both the candidates and the organisers, and considering many are repeat sessions we are very encouraged for next season- the team is making a difference across Sydney and NSW
We look forward to delivering more Water Safety sessions so we can get the message out about being swim safe… whoever you are and wherever you go
