Dear Minnows Families

I write to you with important information regarding changes to Minnows Registrations for the 2020/2021 Season.

Please read this note carefully.

As you can appreciate the COVID pandemic and associated government led restrictions are impacting every part of our lives and the Coogee Minnows 2020/2021 season will be no exception.

Our Committee has been working very hard through the Off Season to design a program which balances our desire to provide a fun and rewarding program for our Minnows against the need for us to take all reasonable precautions to protect our Minnows, Volunteers and our Minnows families. For that reason we will be introducing changes to our Minnows program and our Registration Process for this coming season.

What are the Changes?

Caps on Age Groups - We will be capping registrations at:
  1. U8's - U14's - 100 children per Age Group
  2. U7's - 70 children

If we face a situation where Age Groups are over-subscribed we will prioritise registrations of the following categories of children:
  • Returning members; and then
  • Children of Parents who Volunteer to run the Minnows Program to include - Age Managers, Water Safety, Competition Coaches, Trainers, Competition Officials, BBQ Management;
  • Children who have demonstrated a higher level of involvement in Minnows to include - Attendance Record, participation in additional activities including volunteering (eg fundraising), surf sports training, competition and education.
  • Siblings

The Minnows Executive will review and make a final decision upon all Age Manager proposals regarding any prioritisation of membership.

Once the Age Group cap is reached members will be invited to pay registration fees via the Surf Life Saving payment gateway. This is most important in our U7's to U10's Age Groups where we anticipate Age Groups could be over-subscribed.

This will unfortunately necessitate a 2 step registration process for these families to avoid families from committing Active Kids Vouchers and then not receiving a place for 2020/2021.

For U7's to U10's Please do not pay registration fees unless you receive an invitation from Coogee Minnows Secretary.

See instructions below.

No U6 Program - We are not planning to run an U6's program for 2020/ 2021 at this stage - We may review the position in December 2020 to decide whether we could run a shortened program commencing January 2021 for Siblings only. We appreciate this is disappointing for many families and this topic was subject to a lot of active debate at our meetings.

Proficiency Swims in the Ocean - We have proposed and are awaiting formal approval from SLSA to run all proficiency swims for returning members in the Ocean over the first few weeks of the season instead of the Pool Proficiency.

Registration Process for 2020/2021

All U7s parents - We will require supervision of this group and only qualified Water Safety/ Age Managers are permitted on the beach. Accordingly at least 1 parent per family will be required to have either a Bronze Medallion or an Age Manager's qualification - by registering your child, you are agreeing to complete this qualification and obtain a Working With Children Check Number (WWCC). The club will facilitate an Age Managers course prior to the commencement of the season.

Returning Members Window - We are accepting Returning Minnows Members registration ONLY for all age groups from 14.8.2020 up to 5pm on 28.8.2020.

From 28.8.20 to 5pm 19.9.2020 we will be accepting registrations from all interested children.

For information on how to Register please download and read the Registration and Payment Instructions relevant to your child's Age Group. If you have any difficulties please contact our Secretary via email.

New Members - All families who are not currently Coogee Minnows members but who want to join for Season 2020/2021 please email the Secretary. Once we have a sense of the numbers of returning children we will contact you to inform you whether we can offer a place in our program this year.

Fee Payment

Fee payment for the 20/21 season has changed with the introduction of a new Coogee Minnows payment gateway in the SLS Website. The process steps will be available on the Coogee Minnows website prior to 14 August 2020.

If you are registering in the U7 - U10s age group please:
  1. Register your membership renewal on the SLS website;
  2. DO NOT take the step to pay fees until you receive an invite from Coogee Minnows Secretary.

Do renew your membership on the SLS website but just don't take the payment step until we invite you to pay.

If you are registering for U11s - U14s please :
  1. Register your membership renewal on the SLS Website
  2. Pay via the Surf Life Saving Payment Gateway ensuring to pick Coogee Minnows (NSW) from the club drop down.

Where required and as has been the case in previous seasons, fees may be refunded in accordance with the Coogee Minnows Refund Policy.

COVID Support Fund

We understand that COVID has impacted members of our community financially. We have established a fund to provide support to Minnows families who may have been impacted financially by COVID and/or any of the associated government restrictions to enable those families to continue with Minnows in season 2020/2021. Further details of the fund and how to apply will be released in the coming days. All applications will be considered in strict confidence.

Should you have any questions please contact the Secretary.

Important Notes

Situation Subject to Change Throughout the Season - The framework described assumes the current NSW Government guidance on Community Sport remains in place for the duration of the 2020/ 2021 season. As the situation develops we may need to make further changes to the program.

If the situation changes during the season such that we need to further restrict the program the Minnows Executive Committee will review the situation and at its discretion may grant some form of refund on 2020/2021 Fees.

Important Notice for Vulnerable People - We understand every family has its own individual circumstances. While we will adopt reasonable precautions in line with NSW Government and SLSA Guidance, each family needs to make its own decision on whether they want to participate this season. Should a family decide not to join Minnows for this season due to COVID concerns you will be treated as a returning member for the following season should you decide to re-join at that time.

Kind regards

Steve Gibbs, Minnows Captain
