An impressive day yesterday with our first session of our new Beach Ocean Safety Course for UNSW International Students.
This BOS course is to teach UNSW students the ability to ensure their own safety at the beach and in the water, and is based on the skills we teach our nippers. A great day of Surf Lifesavers sharing their skills and knowledge, and to see the Coogee team in action, and especially seeing so many Coogee Blueys (our 13 - 18 years olds) there for the entire session. Thanks Madhav S. Raman and Oliver Jackson from Coogee SLSC and UNSW who have co-ordinated this program for the students.

Over the past weekend, Coogee SLSC sent 7 of our own IRB Drivers and Crew to attend an all Women's IRB ALBERT Course hosted by SLSNSW and Fingal Bay SLSC.
The main aims of the course were to:
The weekend, which consisted of rockwork, hands-on mechanical development, improvement of Crew and Drivers technique, lots of laughs and also an extremely empowering social environment, resulted in us all learning more ways for women to operate and be involved in IRBs. Making up nearly 20% of the course, the Coogee Team also got to share their own techniques and knowledge from our cumulative experiences. It was an amazing experience for us all and we have all come home super excited, and a little bit sore, to share what we learnt with everyone back at Coogee! Acknowledging and celebrating the female members of our club to mark International Women's Day 2023 with Sisters in Surf Patrol.
The Sisters in Surf Patrol demonstrates our Club's values of inclusivity, tolerance, and community. Let's celebrate diversity in our membership. We welcome those who identify female, male, straight, gay, or non-binary. Fantastic to have over 70 members sign on to patrol and 60 lime green caps visiting. Very proud of the support our members give each other! What a great day! Special thanks to Coogee Bay Hotel and Select Skin for supporting us today. State Beach Team medals tally from the beach track at North Steyne last weekend. Every single one of the team performed very well in hot and steamy conditions. Huge thanks must also go to Coogee's beach officials Michael Johnson and Helen Talaat for officiating in what was a long day on the beach.
Overall: 5 Gold, 3 Silver, 4 Bronze Gold:
Ryan Harper, Eden Levit, Amelia Byrne, Niamh Lynch, Asher Thomasyu and Tamara Abagi making finals in their individual events. No time to rest - just under 3 weeks till Aussies! Races are available to watch on Livestream replay on the SLSNSW Facebook page, there's some great footage of Coogee! Coogee R&R teams excelled at the NSW State titles.
