A huge congratulations to our recent Aussie Champions at the National Short Course Surfboat Championships held at Queenscliff. Our Reserve Grade Women’s DMGs took out first place which was an amazing effort in very challenging conditions. The short nature of these races means crews can't afford to make any mistakes. They showed tremendous surf skills and great race pace to secure the victory. It is the first time Coogee has secured a Gold medal at the nationals in Surfboat racing since 2008 and they were our first female surfboat crew to ever achieve a Gold medal at national level. The crew consisted of Caitlin Trumble, Kelsey McGuinness, Samantha Murray, Lauren McLean and was swept by Paul Beale. Special mention should also be made of the Reserve Mens crew who narrowly missed out on a medal and finished 4th in their first carnival of the season. The Coogee Sons Reserve crew consisted of Jack, Joe and Paul Beale, along with Harrison Smith and Lachlan Smart. No doubt there would have been some proud fathers looking on. This will give them lots of confidence moving forward into the new year. Well done too the Boaties and hopefully more Gold to follow in the new year at the Nationals in Perth. Thanks to Greg Smart for the photos.
