Surf - Swim

There are a number of surf (swim) events at carnivals during the season, culminating in Aussies.

These include Surf Race, Tube Race, Belt Race and 2km Ocean Swim.

Swimming has a long history at Coogee SLSC, with some notable achievements:

• Our Coogee girls won surf race gold in all 3 divisions - U/16, U/18 & Open in 95/96 season
• Belinda Gladstone is Coogee’s most successful swimmer in its history with 4 Aussie surf race golds (1996 U/16 & Open, 1997 Open & U/18)
• Shannon Habler won gold in U/18 in 1996
• John Walker won gold in U24s in 1989
• Chris Gately won gold in the Open Belt in 1982
• Paul Gately won 2 surf race golds in 1971 as a Cadet & 1977 as an Open competitor
• Barry Bunton won gold in 1970’s in restricted surf race
• Brian 'Brusher' Browne won gold in the Junior Belt Race in 1952
• Leigh Habler placed several times at Aussies in swimming & captained the Australian Surf Life Saving Team
• Numerous Masters swimmers have medalled in surf teams and individual surf races at Aussie Championships

We have club run training sessions at Coogee Diggers and surf sessions at South Maroubra. On Sundays, there are weekly surf races at the beach. Throughout the season we have a number of club competitions. Anonymous Donors, Rose Shield, President's Cup and Coogee Diggers v Coogee Surf Club 20 a-side relay at Wylies Baths.
