Coogee SLSC Training Sessions 24/25 Members who are interested in surf sports, may be eligible to participate in a variety of beach (sand) events at local, Branch, State and National level competition. Surf sports competition is a healthy and enjoyable part of lifesaving. Competition is voluntary, members can compete according to their membership status, eg patrol hours. Those that participate can attest to it being an incredibly rewarding element of life saving. Not to mention keeping fit, training for a goal, ie national gold medal and for enjoyment.
There are a number of events available in the water during competition all tying back to the essential skills of SLS. There are both individual, team and multi-disciplinary events available with various distances.
While all the other competitive disciplines are having fun and competing throughout the summer months, the IRB are busy carrying out water safety.
There are three areas that provide members with the opportunity to demonstrate in a competitive manner the physical, lifesaving and knowledge skills required of a Lifesaver as either an individual, a pair or in a team. These are Champion Lifesaver, First Aid and Patrol Competition.
This iconic Surf Life Saving event dates back to the 1920s.
A team of twelve club members march around a rectangular course on the beach to music led by their Flag Bearer, carrying a Club Flag, and a reel party carrying a traditional surf reel. Competitors test their rescue skills with events such as manikin tows, obstacle swims and tube swims carrying patients in a pool environment. There are individual and team events available.
The Rescue and Resuscitation (R&R) competition provides the opportunity for members to demonstrate in a competitive manner some traditional rescue and resuscitation techniques used in Surf Life Saving.
Coogee SLSC has a separate Board Riding Section to the rest of the board events. Divisions include Men’s and Women’s in Open, U19, U17 and U15.
