Coogee SLSC finished a very credible 9th at the recent NSW Surf Life Saving Championships. Our competitors displayed incredible sportsmanship, we had fantastic coaching and the effort of our Area managers, volunteer officials and various other personnel helped make it a memorable two weeks. R & R Captain – Jenny Trinca
The Coogee R & R team were undoubtable our most successful area with EVERY competitor winning a medal. Congratulations to the team who were named the “Winners of the State R & R Championships”. Thank you to the fabulous coaches who we couldn’t have done it without. Masters Captain – Mel Toomey The Masters had a great competition at State this year, possibly for the girls one of the most successful in recent memory! Our female beach relay team, board relay team, and Taplin took away gold. Seasoned competitors like Helen Deas, Rona McNiven, Nicola Logan and Linda Walsh continued to shine in events they’ve dominated for years, as well as trying their hand at some new ones. Our boys team this year is building up to greatness in seasons to come – we’ve had many a bright, young (?) face join us and even a silver fox return to the fold – we welcome you back Tony LeMarseny with open arms. Beach Captain - Aidan Byrne The weekend started well with Ronan Sheppard taking home a silver medal in the u19 2k beach run on Friday night and finished with the outstanding performance of the weekend with Richard Nestor winning gold in the u15 beach flags. In between, there were medals for the u15 male, female and Mixed beach relays. Lifesaving Captain – Andrew Bloxsom All that study and practice paid off! Patrol Comp Team took out a silver in a test of theory, resus and patrol scenario test. Robert Illidge won gold in the 50-59 Champion Lifesaver and Caitlin Lee silver in u17 and the team qualified for Aussies. Exciting times ahead for this group and if anyone is interested in joining contact Andrew. Water Captain – Ava Szabo The Coogee water team proved all their hard work and training has paid off with a majority of competitors making the semi-final or finals. Shout out to Kai Stuetz for making it to 3 State finals in the Board, Swim and Iron and Courtney for narrowly missing out on the board final. Boat Captain - Harrison Smith The Coogee Boaties were out in force with 7 crews heading north for State Glory. The weekend kicked off with the Coogee Overwavers winning Bronze in the 180+ Women’s Masters Division. . Six of the seven Coogee crews then made finals day in flat surf and 35 degree heat. The DMG’s cruised through their rounds and into the State final of the Open Women’s. The Filthy Oars, Havachats and Terminators were up next in their quarter finals, all missing out after a bit of stiff luck off the start. Both the Overwavers and Nut Crabbers raced well in their quarters and progressed through to the State Semi final. A big result for Coogee with three female crews racing for a spot in a state final but unfortunately no medals. Aussies here we come!
