The sparkles were all out on show on the last Saturday of winter, August 31, for the first ever Spring Soiree with Sparkles in the Ocean Room. Doors opened at 2pm and the weather was glorious, the ocean backdrop nothing short of dazzling. It’s our goal of running a social event in the ocean room each month when we can (and when available). Aiming to host a relaxed and fun afternoon for members and guests to see in spring with a bit of sparkle. Also, a fantastic opportunity to try out the new Ocean Room cocktails as well.
Lucky to secure local live music with our very own former R&R gold medallist vocalist Evelyn Deans supported by Max on guitar, provided some acapella chilled out vibes and building up to a rockier finish with some 90’s tunes. By keeping ticket prices low we brought the crowds in, with over 100 tickets sold, not bad for a first-time outing. Food was simple, crowd pleasers like the good old sushi, and the old 70’s fave French onion dip with chilli bark pieces. The food kept coming throughout the afternoon with the best party item, potato wedges, sausage rolls and the always popular mini pies, and who wouldn’t like the honey beef sausages. There was a bit of everything. The crowd enjoyed party games with the wine toss and the heads and tails game. Evie’s grandma Grace was just too good taking out the win, no-one could get closer than she did. Newcomer Ruben won the heads and tails game easily, very clever. With the prize of the day, the Best Dressed judge Chris Cantarella, announced the far and away winner was Kristina Gram, head to toe in sparkles. Great to see so many local and new faces in the room. Look forward to next year, and hopefully we might still get Evie and Max back if they haven’t hit the big time! Thanks to Tash, Debbie, Kelly and all the bar staff for their efforts throughout the day, they were fantastic. And a huge thanks to Margaret and Mick for working hard to keep that food coming from the kitchen. Looking forward to next year. Onwards to September’s Social event, the Season Opener... Raising the Flags, September 27.
