Branch Champs - 1st weekend wrap up

Last weekend and this coming weekend see the Two Blues battle across 4 days for the 2026 SLSS Branch Championships being held across South Maroubra, Elouera and Wanda Beaches. Coogee has a team of over 120 Minnows and 150 Youth, Open and Masters competing across both these weekends.

On the weekend just past (Friday night and Saturday) at South Maroubra where the first two days of the Branch Championships that encompassed Surfing, R&R, Champion Lifesaver, First Aid, Distance Runs and the U9 & U10 Beach Events.
After these first two days of the 2026 Branch Championship, Coogee SLSC are sitting in 2nd place behind Bondi. This is on the back of coming overall first in the Surf Board Riding and R&R, overall second in the Champion Lifesaver and First Aid and currently sitting third in the Age events. In terms of medals, over the 2 days, our Two Blues collected 46 medals in total including 25 Gold ones.
There were so many amazing efforts over the weekend but just wanted to call out one in Michelle Donoghue (our Masters Area Captain) who not only took out Gold in the Masters Surfing but also claimed Gold in the Open Female Short Board and Long Board events. So winning all the female surfing events available for her to compete in and was joined in the Open Short Board event by her daughter Frankie who took home the Bronze.

Our athletes would be able to compete without the support of sponsors and at Coogee we have amazing ones. So we’d like to call out on behalf of our surfers thanking Life Member Doug Hawkins & his family for donating a new longboard for training & competition purposes. Doug said “this beautiful board is donated to the memory of Coogee SLSC surfing legend Henry Parsons, who founded the surfing fraternity in our club”. It already has 3 medals & from all reports it is highly manoeuvrable & a joy to surf.​
