For those that aren’t aware for the lifesaving events (Champion Patrol, Champion Lifesaver and First Aid) there are normally only 8 spots on offer for each event per age group and gender across Australia and two of these go to NSW. So to actually be apart of these events at Aussies is a massive achievement in the first place. 2025 Australian Titles saw a big increase in involvement for our Sport Lifesaving team in that for the last couple of seasons we have just had our amazing Open Champion Patrol team qualify through placing by winning a medal at the State Champs. This season saw them not only qualify again but also two of our Champion Lifesavers in Caitlyn Lee and Rob Illidge. We also had our U17 First Aid team qualify but unable to attend due to time needed off from school which was unfortunate but an amazing achievement in the first place.
At Aussies our team was met with difficult weather and surf conditions that saw some of the physical events not held and putting more focus on the “dry” events of theory, scenarios and resuscitation. With all of this and the spectacular efforts put in by Caitlyn, Rob (who also backed up in our PC Team), Andi, Emma, Will, Alex, Josh and the world famous Scuba Steve, Coogee took hold of 4th spots in the U17 Female, 50-59 Male and PC Team events being our best results in the last 4 years. I’d like to thank Ben Heenan as our back up PC team member up at Aussies and all those that helped with the live scenario sessions pre Aussies as their support was invaluable.
